On a damp but pleasant morning Bancroft hosted Wanstead in an exciting game of tag rugby which was played in a competitive but friendly spirit.
In the first couple of minutes Bancroft went 2-0 up with quick tries from Levi Browne and Oliver Morgan. Wanstead did well to get back in the game and the score at half time was 4-3 with Jake Bramley and Levi Browne helping to keep our noses in front.
In the second half Bancroft upped their work rate and got two hard fought-for turnovers on the back of some outstanding defensive play with Oliver Fahey involved in every move.
On the counter attack from one of these Hugh Kelliher burst through the Wanstead defense to place the ball down over the whitewash and Jake Bramley and Levi Browne followed up with more tries to make it 7-3.
In the final minutes Ashton Hillier made one of his trademark breaks and picked out Jaden Cohen who finished off a stunning bit of support play to score.
Both teams played well on the day but it was Bancroft's superb tagging and support that made the difference and it ended 8-3 in favour of the hosts.
